Sears

 I worked at Sears part time for 9 years. I witnessed the decline from the world’s largest retailer to basically bankrupt. How? Why? Arrogance and failure to adjust and adapt to modern times. You covered it in this video… innovation, using the catalogue to reach out to the entire nation. They owned mail order. But… but they completely failed to grasp the power and reach of the internet. If they had simply put their catalogue on line then they, Sears, would have been Amazon. Sears thought they owned the customer. They thought the customer would jump through hoops to buy at Sears. They were Wrong! Lowe’s moved in and had appliances ready to go in the store. Walmart came in and piled up products at believable every day low prices. Sears became an imitator not an innovator. Sears was steeped in arrogance. Salesman wore suites and ties but people don’t need salesmen, all they need is a shopping cart. All they needed was an online catalog. They owned retail and they blew it!
