Super Bowl Sunday February 12, 2023

We have watched a lot of super bowls over the years. Dave and Alice hosted parties for a few years when the Patriots dominated with Tom Brady. Tess adamantly protested that we are not going to s a Super Bowl party this year because I just want to Watch the Game! This year more than any in years past I really wanted to watch the game and in particular, route for Patrick Mahomes who is a young man with exceptional athletic ability and charisma. This kid is Amazing! He has an ability to duck and weave and run and throw with such finesse and such precision that tv announcers get caught up in his enthusiasm and start cheering for him. We began this season pulling for the Gamecocks in NCAA and Panthers in the NFL but as the Panthers season started to fade I suggested that we pick up on Tom Brady because of his age, 45 and Patrick Mahomes because of his incredible energy and unusual skills. So we started watching Tampa Bay and Kansas City. It’s been a great year watching football with a Marcos Supreme Pizza every weekend but this Superbowl Sunday was Super Great!

Patrick Mahomes has been like the perfect kid to cheer for. He is a great family man but is also incredibly skilled in the game and pulls tricks out of his hat that make him incredibly fun and exciting to watch.

In addition the story of Two Brothers, Travis and Jason Kelse is something you just don’t see everyday.

The odds were picking Philadelphia by a point and a half and every professional commentator, including Tess was picking Philadelphia to win but I never gave up help and one sports and news personality on CBS not only picked KC but also correctly predicted the score.

This highlights film defines Team and Teamwork! Such an incredible game with a Never say die credo and the ultimate It ain’t over til it’s Over eleven second finish. Yes there were a couple of pivotal calls but for both sides.  The defensive holding giving KC a first down was big but how about the KC defense TD that was called back because the catch was not a catch:
“The whole catch-or-not debate came up again on Philadelphia's opening drive of the second half when Hurts threw a short pass to Miles Sanders — who was immediately walloped by L’Jarius Sneed. The ball came loose and Nick Bolton — who already returned a fumble for a touchdown earlier — picked up the ball and headed to the end zone again.”
So my respect goes to both teams and all the players who played their hearts out and accepted the results with grace while keeping their dignity in tact.
We will be seeing the Mahomes - Kelse -  Reid legacy for many years to come and can’t wait until next year.
